    Mother-Daughter Relationship

    Me, myself, and my mother...From the time a girl is born until she becomes twelve, her mother is basically the only person that matters. Her mother is a fairy godmother in the flesh. You envision yourself becoming like her when you grow up. But the mother-daughter relationship is bound to have rifts sometimes.

    Adolescence is a trying time for the mother-daughter relationship. Who was once thought of as the greatest human being in existence suddenly becomes otherwise. Her inquisitive nature is not so amusing anymore. Your usual intimate conversations gradually makes you feel like you're being tried out for murder.

    Whether mothers admit it or not, they are reluctant to let go of their little girls. They want to shelter their daughters from any hurt, failure, and unfavorable situations. Mothers sometimes find it difficult that their daughters are slowly becoming independent individuals. This independence is often the cause of conflicts in mother-daughter relationships.

    When girls are in their teens, they learn to be interested in other people. They find out things other than what mom pointed out to them. Even if most daughters do not mean to detach themselves from their mothers, they will eventually be sharing lesser times with each other when there are other people to spend time with. Not all adolescent females break free from the bonds of the mother-daughter relationship. If the relationship is built on firm grounds, this phase of life could even mean a stronger connection between a mother and her daughter.

    A growing up daughter scares practically scares every mother. There are issues that put dark clouds on a lot of mother-daughter relationships. It seems that most mothers should have a say on what to wear, where to go, and who to see. Daughters regard this as an invasion of privacy and total abuse of power. But mothers would just insist and tell you to "either change what you're wearing or you don't get to attend the party at all."

    Some women never realize how right their mothers were until they become mothers themselves. What they used to think were unreasonable suddenly make perfect sense. But not all women need to experience motherhood in order to know that their mothers mean well. If the mother-daughter relationship you're in allows you to share your thought freely and lets you hear the other person's sentiments as well, then there's no reason why a simple dress ethics could ruin it for both of you. Daughters should accept the fact that mothers most likely know better. And mothers, no matter how frightening the thought of their girls growing up, must allow them to be their own women.
